DIGESTIVE DISEASE CENTER OF EXCELLENCE

ESOPHAGEAL DISEASES

• Evaluation and management of gastroesophageal reflux (GERD)

STOMACH DISORDERS

• Evaluation and treatment of nausea and vomiting including gastric emptying disorders (gastroparesis) with utilization of Smart Pill technology.

SMALL BOWEL DISORDERS

• Nationally recognized experience in diagnosis and management of Celiac disease
• Evaluation of functional and inflammatory diseases of the small intestine including Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth Study
• Only private practice group in the Louisville area offering office based small bowel capsule endoscopy for management of occult gastrointestinal bleeding

COLON

• Excellent and efficient colon cancer screening programs (see colon cancer screening)
• Evaluation and management of hereditary aspects of colon cancer
• Management of rectal bleeding
• Evaluation and management of constipation including access to anorectal manometry; specific radiologic testing and biofeedback techniques
• Evaluation and management of diarrheal diseases
• Extensive experience with diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy including removal of large polyps (see endoscopy)

PANCREAS AND BILIARY DISEASE

• Evaluation and management of pancreatic diseases including acute and chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer

• Extensive experience in diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP (endoscopic retrograde pancreaticocholangiography) including bile duct stone removal, treatment of biliary ductal leakage, bile duct obstruction, placement of biliary stents and palliative care of pancreatic and biliary malignancies

LIVER DISEASE

• Evaluation and management of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C
• Evaluation of abnormal liver function tests
• Practice works very closely with the program at the University of Louisville
• Complete management of the cirrhotic patient including evaluation and treatment of esophageal varices, ascites, hepatic encephalopathy and cancer of the liver
• Evaluate and management of all liver disorders including non alcoholic fatty liver disease, hemochromatosis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, autoimmune hepatitis, alpha-1-antitrypsin definicency and Wilson’s disease

INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE (IBD)

• Extensive experience in evaluation and management of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
• Colonoscopy screening for malignancy in IBD
• Extensive experience with immunomodulator treatment including 6-MP and azathioprine
• State of the art treatment with biologics e.g. Remicade in the comfort of our office based infusion center

FUNCTIONAL BOWEL DISEASE

MANOMETRY

ONCOLOGY-GASTROINTESTINAL

• Evaluation and management of esophageal cancer including endoscopy, placement of esophageal stents and close working relationship with oncologists, radiation therapists and thoracic surgeons
• Evaluation and management of pancreatic cancer including ERCP, and palliative treatments including stents
• Evaluation and management of colorectal cancer
• Close working relationship with cancer specialists giving our patients access to protocols for cancer treatments with local and nationally renowned cancer programs
• Access to endoscopic ultrasound service

ENDOSCOPY

• Extensive experience in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (esophagus, stomach, small bowel) with removal of premalignant lesions, dilatation of strictures of the esophagus and pylorus, esophageal stents, management of upper GI bleeding including esophageal varices
• Extensive experience in colonoscopy including advanced polypectomy techniques, screening for colon cancer, and placement of colonic stents
• Extensive experience in ERCP
• Endoscopic management of hemorrhoidal bleeding
• Small bowel capsule endoscopy
• Esophageal capsule endoscopy

HOSPITAL CARE

• Extensive experience in management of acute GI diseases and emergencies
• 24 hour availability for in-patient hospital care at Suburban Hospital and Baptist Hospital East

• Management of pregnancy related gastrointestinal and liver diseases
• Access to outstanding radiology services including state of the art CT scanning, MRI, ultrasound and Barium studies
